Our Mission

Youth unemployment is one of the most pressing challenges facing Ghana. School and university graduates are too often unable to secure meaningful employment after completing their education. One in five Ghanaians aged 15-24 are not in education, training or employment. Many more are underemployed or working in vulnerable jobs.

A key factor contributing to this problem is the lack of structured mentorship to guide young people from education into meaningful employment or entrepreneurship. Many young job seekers struggle to navigate the job market, access professional networks and develop relevant skills that could improve their employment prospects.

Mentoring for Success aims to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people in Ghana by offering high-quality, free mentorship from experienced professionals in business, the public sector and the NGO sector.

How we work

Mentoring for Success pairs young people in their final year of Senior High School (SHS) with trained volunteer mentors for 12 months. In the initial phase of the project, the young people targeted will come from Category C schools in the most deprived areas of Accra.

Mentors commit to meeting their mentee for a minimum of one hour per month either face-to-face or online.

The specific topics covered in the mentor-mentee partnership depend on the needs of each young person, but include the following key areas:

Our Long-Term Vision

Our long-term vision is to create a self-sustaining mentorship ecosystem for school leavers in Ghana. This will be achieved by:

Expanding the programme beyond the initial target school to cover other Category C schools in Accra and across Ghana.

Building an alumni network of mentees who return as trained volunteer mentors.

Strengthening partnerships with private sector employers, educational institutions and government agencies to provide in-kind support and placement opportunities.

Leveraging digital platforms to deliver low-cost, scalable mentorship.
